The trouble with a kitten is that
it eventually becomes a cat.
– Ogden Nash
That, right there is why I am a dog person.
No offense to cat lovers, which include my son, but you must admit there is a big difference between a kitten and a cat. We picked out two “free to a good home” kittens when the kids were little. They wound up costing me a small fortune, but they sure were cute.
Then they grew into cats.
The larger of the two lived to pull my chain, I swear. He loved to sit in our bedroom window and look out at the world. Especially in the middle of the night. His path to the bedroom window was directly across my face. My sleeping face.
I’d look in that cat’s eyes and knew exactly what he was thinking: “If I were as big as my relatives in Africa, I’d eat you. Right now.”
Not so with dogs.
They remain puppies all their lives. Dumb puppies. Even the smartest ones.
And that’s what makes them adorable.
So on this day, March 23, National Puppy Day, here’s to puppies of all ages.
One website on the topic says, ‘Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness.” Ain’t it the truth.
