Yep, every time

This is one for Jimmy Hatlo, I thought as I drove on the Pittston By-pass Thursday.
Jimmy Hatlo drew the single-panel comic strip “They’ll do it every time” which appeared in the Sunday papers I’d read at my grandmother’s house in the ‘50s and ‘60s. It was about the idiosyncrasies of people, many of which fell into the category of irony. That’s what my observation on the By-pass was for sure.
I pulled up at a red light at the corner of Oak Street behind a car with this bumper sticker: The closer you get, the slower I go.
“No problem,” I said to myself. Tailgating is one of my pet peeves, so I always allow a ton of space between me and the car in front of me.
Then the light turned green. And the guy with the bumper sticker proceeded to ride the tail of the car in front of him all the way to William Street.
Maybe he bought the car used and the bumper sticker was put on by the previous owner.
