The cure

Summer’s gone, ain’t comin’ back
but I think I’ll be okay.
God gave us sports to get us through
as I put my shorts away.

It’s back again to big boy pants.
I’m even wearing socks.
But the U.S. Open is underway.
For tennis fans, that rocks.

But tennis is just icing on the cake.
Thanks to the Yanks and Phils.
Dare we dream of playoff berths?
Could we even handle such thrills?

Then there’s football, the antidote
to the pain of summer’s end
The college games already here,
the NFL just around the bend

It’s hard to say which works best
MLB or the NFL,
but a summer’s end without sports
would be a living hell.
